BLU VIVO XI+ Review and Offer’s Costumers Review

The BLU Vivo XI Plus has a finish that blends glass and metal in the back, with metal on the sides and glass on the front. The device already has the screen in a different ratio, being 19: 9, with a notch on the top. This ratio allows the smartphone to have a large screen in a compact body, being slightly smaller in height than the Galaxy S9 Plus, but slightly wider. The overall look is reminiscent of Zenfone 5, with clear inspiration for iPhone X with both the use of notch and in the upper left-hand cameras aligned vertically. The lower edge, at least, is greatly reduced, and the apparatus has a frontal utilization greater than 82%. In the notch, which has basically the same size found in the iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8, we find the camera of selfies, proximity and luminosity sensors, call speaker and a sensor for 3D facial recognition, allowing the authentication to be done even in dark places. By the way, this is the first Android model with such a feature coming to Brazil officially. The chipset holds a micro SIM and a nano-SIM or a micro SIM and a micro SD card up to 128 GB. The back has a fingerprint reader, but the handset does not have any water and dust certification or P2 port for headphones, leaving the single output for a multimedia speaker on its bottom side. About biometrics methods, the digital reader is fast and efficient for what it proposes, and 3D facial recognition works the same way, having the problem only to authenticate in places under a direct strong light.

Screen and sound

The Vivo XI Plus screen has 6.2 inches, the same usable area we have on Zenfone 5 and other models with the same dimensions in 19: 9 ratio. The IPS LCD display has Gorilla Glass 3 protection and the biggest differential is that the BLU offers a free exchange of the display in case of break up to six months after the date of purchase. Warranty against manufacturing defects is 1 year, with immediate replacement of the product with a new one. The content display quality is very good for the price of the device, with comfortable brightness for use in both low light and high light environment, as well as good viewing angles and low reflectivity on the glass even using the film which has already been applied. On the audio, unfortunately, we only have a sound output on the bottom of the device, which is not the best position and can end up being obstructed when holding the device horizontally to watch videos or play. The volume is loud and does not have much distortion thanks to DTS technology, but immersion could be better if the speakerphone was also used to deliver stereo sound. As mentioned before, Vivo XI Plus does not have P2 input for headphones, so listening to music in a more discreet way requires the use of the adapter delivered in the box or buying Bluetooth headsets. It is worth noting that the device is compatible with wireless charging in the Qi standard, so it is possible to charge it while listening to music with headphones without problems.

The Vivo XI Plus comes with a MediaTek Helio P60 chipset inside, offering a much grander processor than the present in the Moto G6, the most popular device that has the same official price. And yes, that extra power makes a lot of difference. The BLU device seamlessly runs heavier applications and did well on the speed tests, holding all applications on the second lap without major problems and needing just over 1 minute to complete the two cycles. In games, we also feel superior performance to other handsets in this same price range, with smooth gameplay and good graphics even in games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9. The only exception was in Modern Combat 5, which does not look very good optimized for the ARM graphics platform. Overall, the device complies seamlessly with the manufacturer’s promise to “withstand the most demanding games and applications today with mastery.”

The BLU smartphone has two cameras on the back, one 16 MP with f / 2.0 aperture and the other 5 MP that is used only for depth-of-field recognition, which helps in bokeh effect in real time. At the front, a solitary sensor offers group or individual selfies of also 16 MP with f / 2.0 aperture, plus beautification mode and portrait mode. However, videos only in HD resolution in this camera of selfies, while the rear is locked in Full HD at 30 fps. The quality of the images surprises positively, considering that it is a cheaper device. If you want to take some photos for social networks, you’ll get good results in most scenarios. There’s still a lot of cool modes available, including the manual for custom settings, HDR, night mode for lighter, brighter photos with less noise, slow motion and even a panorama of selfies.

But not everything is perfect. We already know well that MediaTek platforms have more difficulty in offering good autonomy, and Vivo XI Plus is one more to be owed in this regard. With a non-removable battery of 3,050 mAh, the device can not offer a full day of heavy use unless the user makes adjustments to save the load well. In our actual use test, we achieved an average of about 7 hours and 10 minutes of active screen, with about 14 and a half hours of use. The recharge is not the fastest, but it is within the average, taking just under two hours to go from 0 to 100%. If you have a wireless charger available, Vivo XI Plus is compatible with Qi wireless charging technology.

And coming to our last evaluation question, the BLU Vivo XI Plus brings the Android 8.1 Oreo factory installed, but already has the appearance of Android Pie. This is especially true in the settings menu and in the shortcuts/notifications bar, as well as icons and even the organization of the apps drawer. The big thing here is that the interface still has to do with the translation of some areas, with some English texts and some mistranslations, but nothing that can not be corrected in future software updates. Speaking of them, BLU promises to update Android 9 Pie to Vivo XI Plus, stating only that it will happen in early 2019. For those who do not like the notch, you can easily hide it with a gesture in the upper corner of the screen, which still helps prevent some apps that are not optimized for clipping in the wrong frame.

For its price range, the BLU VIVO XI + is a disruptive device. With its design and build quality, powerful performance, good quality screen, positively surprised cameras, an advanced biometric system that includes 3D facial sensor and fingerprint reader, and all after-sales promised by BLU. The battery is mediocre, being able to withstand a day of moderate use but should take you straight to the socket by mid-afternoon if you have a more intense pattern. In our opinion, a great value for money.
