Germany to allocate billions of euros for flood recovery

The German government will form a package of assistance to the flood-affected regions, which will amount to 10 billion euros. This is reported by Der Spiegel, citing sources.

According to the publication, half of the required amount will be allocated from the federal budget, the second half — from regional budgets. In the future, the amount of funds may be increased. Most of the money will be used to restore the infrastructure.

Earlier it became known that the German government will pay 400 million euros as immediate assistance to victims of the disaster. 200 million of them will be allocated by the national budget, another 200 million will be allocated to the land administration. If necessary, Berlin promised to apply for financial support to the EU Solidarity Fund.

On July 12, heavy rains in the western part of Germany led to large-scale flooding. As a result, 180 people were killed, more than 750 were injured (as of July 28). More than a thousand people are missing. Roads, bridges, houses and streets were destroyed.
